About Evergreen Llamas

Evergreen Llamas is business-minded llama operation specializing in the support and training of new llama owners and breeders as well as the sales of show quality and suri llamas.

Evergreen Llamas is owned and operated by Jacob and Meggan Mumford. Jacob is a 3rd Generation llama breeder, taking off where his parents and grandparents left off in the llama industry. Meggan works tiressley leading one of the biggest llama 4-H programs in the country; this is the same 4-H llama club that Jacob’s parents started in the early 1980’s and is also where Jacob and Meggan met showing llamas over a decade ago. Jacob and Meggan’s daughter Layla now owns her own growing group of “college fund females”, making her the only 4th generation llama breeder and owner in the USA.

Evergreen’s llama breeding program focusing on show stock which solid conformation, striking colors, and solid genetics. Typically we achieve our goals by crossing traditional Patterson and North American lines with exotic and rare import and suri lines. Occasionally we produce Full Peruvian, Full Chilean, and Full North American animals for our customers with an interest in country-pure breeding. Our program is one of the only in the USA committed to preserving a group of 100% American animals (llamas with bloodlines imported from South America prior to the 1920s). Our suri program is centered around our suri stud The Slickmeister crossed onto our Peruvian, Chilean, and show cross dams. Chilean Zodiac’s get will start arriving in 2008, which gives us the opportunity to offer rare Full Chilean suris, as well as outcross suris unrelated to ALL of the mainstream suri lines: *Kantu, *Keno,* Peruvian Maximo, *Newevo, *Bolivian Radical, and *Peruvian Secret Weapon! We anticipate Zodiac taking over Slick’s spot as our top suri male in the near future.

Evergreen’s herd is carefully managed including the culling of light milkers, problem animals, and producers of inferior stock. These culls are sold to be pet animals and sheep guards or otherwise removed from the breeding pool, NOT sold to other breeders (a common practice with some other camelid breeders). Our stock has good milking and mothering ability BRED IN. Generally speaking our stock is trouble free so you can spend your free time ENJOYING the llamas you purchase from us and not waking up every 2 hours in the middle of the night to check on or supplement a weak cria. Even our sire lines our rigorously researched, so if you breed to an Evergreen sire you should still be bringing exceptional maternal lines to your herd. We believe that our strict breeding requirements and culling offers our customers genetically strong stock which amounts to a commitment BETTER than any farm guarantee on the market today! Our stock and genetics are closely managed to prevent future problems, whereas the typical farm grantee only promises you marginal reimbursement after your purchase fails to perform.

Our belief is that South American Camelids, and specifically suri and show llamas are among the most precious and rewarding livestock investments on the planet. The same animals that served the Incan people so well for thousands of years are serving our small farm family well in today’s world of green and sustainable agriculture which demands the low-impact and environmentally sound practices like only South American camelids can offer.  A big part of our job is spreading the word about these special animals, we welcome your inquiry via e-mail to Evergreenllamas@aol.com. We believe in these special animals that we produce and stand behind each and everyone with unlimited post purchase support. Our support to small llama breeders is second to none and includes customized marketing plans to all of our breeding customers. Our success is directly tied to the success of our clients and partners. It is this philosophy that also led us to create the first West Coast Llama sale in 5 years, the Cascade Llama Sale! www.cascadellamasale.com. The Cascade Llama sale put on 1 successful llama auction in Ridgefield, Washington in 2007 and is planning another Northwestern event in 2008. The Mumfords and the Cascade staff have other unique camelid marketing ideas on the horizon as well. Our Evergreen customers always tell us that they feel more like close friends and family then customers and we want to extend the same support and hospitality to our Cascade buyers and sellers!
